CELTIC supporters might need to get used to their team taking points on the road in Europe.

Rennes spent £45million on players in the summer and they were more than matched by Neil Lennon's men who seem to have found a way to get success outside Glasgow.

The Europa League is their level and on this evidence, Celtic have more than a chance to go on their longest European run in many a year.

If only Neil Lennon had all of these players last month!

NEIL LENNON HAS THE PLAYERS WHO CAN WIN THE GROUP

This was an excellent point and Celtic deserved their draw. Any positive result away from him is to be welcomed and this was a great start to their group.

Rennes are a good team. Celtic matched them and were perhaps just the better team.

Cluj we know about and they beat Lazio. Lennon believes his team are now better than the Romanians which is right. The manager will fancy winning at least two games and the away from this season has been superb.

Rennes are second in the French league and the Scottish champions took the game to them in their own back yard.

Celtic played with confidence, guile and bravery. It was terrific to watch.

They are better at the back, seem to have found a balance which suits them and the more direct style brought in by Lennon has been a huge contributing factor.

They will always give the opposition chances because they do push forward; however, they will score themselves.

Ryan Christie, Odssone Edouard and the remarkable James Forrest can cause any team problems.

THIS WAS AS GOOD AS CELTIC HAVE PLAYED AWAY FROM HOME IN THE EUROPA LEAGUE

It was ‘only’ a draw but the performance delighted Lennon, as it should.

Celtic under Brendan Rodgers were too open at this stage and got torn apart because of it.

Sure, Rennes are no PSG or Bayern Munich, but they are a strong side. This is a fantastic result which will give everyone at the club encouragement.

Celtic's record away from home in Europe has got better a few hidings aside, but this was a mature performance from start to finish.

It doesn't suit these players to sit in and play out from the back. They need to be on the front-foot as often as they can.

CHRISTOPHER JULLIEN IS GOING TO BE A REAL LEADER THIS SEASON

The Frenchman was immense on the ground and in the air. He can also play a bit.

Jullien looks like a proper footballer. His frame means not many are going to win high balls against him and he's seriously quick.

He never stop talking - his English is more or less fluent - and is happy to take charge, be the frontline centre-half, when some defending needs to be done.

REFEREE JOSE MARIA SANCHEZ MARTINEZ PUT IN AN ECCENTRIC PERFORMANCE

He hadn't got a lot wrong until he somehow missed an obvious penalty when Ryan Christie was clearly tripped inside the box.

Bayo was daft to go so near to Rennes keeper Mendy who had collected the ball following him fumbling an Olivier Ntcham effort, but he hardly touched the man.

The Spanish referee seemed to change his mind about not booking the Celtic substitute, checked on Mendy, then decided it was a second yellow.

Indeed, he got a few decisions wrong for both teams. See, there are poor refs all over Europe.

CELTIC NEED TO BE BETTER AT SET-PIECES

They won free kicks in good attacking areas but too often, and this has been a long-standing problem, the delivery wasn’t good enough. Same with corners. There isn’t much point in the big guys coming up when the ball sails high over their head.

Yes, it’s a small moan on an excellent night, but it’s something that needs to be worked on.

Lennon has mentioned this before. Free-kicks and corners and what you do with them play a huge part in modern football.

Had they been better at this on Rennes, they may well have won.
