Allan McGregor

Superb save with his foot denied Michael O’Halloran after 35 minutes of spectating. As important a moment in the game than any of the goals. 7

James Tavernier

St Johnstone strangely didn’t take into account he rather liked to get forward which he did to great effect. Was posted missing at O’Halloran chance but a superb cross led to the second. 7

Filip Helander

Almost cost a goal when he allowed himself to be bullied by Stevie May. Was better in the second half but needs to be stronger in this league. 6

Connor Goldson

Won headers, made tackles and then scored with a fine header which he guided wide of Zander Clark and just inside the post. A good afternoon. 7

Borna Barasic

Went close with a free kick early in the game. He enjoyed himself in the second half when he could attack as much as he liked. 7

Ryan Jack

A superb pass presented Morelos with a chance early on and then his superb long ball led to the opening goal. Jack has emerged as a superb midfielder. 8

Steven Davis

Did fine without being his usual imposing self. Grew frustrated in the first half when there wasn’t much going on in front of him. 6

Brandon Barker

Tried his best to get into the match but was starved of the ball and subbed without making much of an impact. 6

Joe Aribo

He’s a funny player. The game went past him for spells but then he shows great ability when on the ball. Hit the crossbar with a head and was close with a shot. 7

Sheyi Ojo

Had two decent shots in the first half and, as always, there was some lovely moments of football from him. 7

Alfredo Morelos

Early chance thwarted by Saints keeper but was at his brilliant best to open the scoring. Last season would have reacted to the many kicks, fouls and shirt pulls. Brilliant. 8

Substitutes

Scott Arfield

Almost scored with his first touch of the ball. 6

Jermain Defoe

Replaced Morelos but had no time to score two goals – although both were controversial. 7

Greg Stewart

Didn’t get much chance to impress. 5
