Former Celtic defender Johan Mjallby reckons Rangers star Filip Helander is suited to Scottish football and could be a big player for Rangers.

Swedish international Helander, 26, spent the early stages of his move sitting on the bench with Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic both ahead of him through fitness and form.

Now, though, the £3million signing seems to have pushed his way into the starting XI with steady performances against Feyenoord and St Johnstone.

Johan Mjallby: At Celtic you always have to win every trophy ... but BetFred Cup isn't Neil Lennon's priority

And compatriot Mjallby insists he's a perfect fit for football in Scotland.

He said: "Filip is a steady centre half who reads the game well.

"He’s done well for Sweden when he’s played and he’s been in Italy for a number of years.

"He’s probably not the quickest but he’s steady, good in the air and decent on the ball without being really pacy.

"He’s quite aggressive and he’ll definitely be suited to Scottish football."
