Scotland boss Steve Clarke insists he will chat with Rangers star Ryan Jack in training this week to avoid a repeat of last time.

Jack was forced to withdraw from the squad in their previous double header against Russia and Belgium with a knee flare-up.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard was furious with Clarke and the Scotland set-up when his star man returned to Ibrox injured.

And Clarke admits that, while he hasn't spoken with Gerrard personally, he will speak with Jack to make sure the lines of communication are clearer and that he doesn't force the player into anything that will injure him.

Asked about the Rangers manager's comments, Clarke responded: "I understand Steven’s point of view.

"You send a player to an international camp and he comes back injured.

"Ryan deserved his call-up and he deserves to be in again.

"It was probably a lack of communication and we have to work on that.

"Within our staff we have to make sure we address all the issues and hopefully it won’t happen again.

"I have not spoken to Steven. He said what he said. I will speak to Ryan in the camp this week."
