IT’S a shame that Celtic have to travel to Livingston for a 12pm kick-off after the final whistle only blew on their match against Cluj just before 10pm on Thursday night, and in an ideal world, the footballing authorities would give greater consideration to the schedules facing our teams who are competing in Europe.

The reality is though that having taken the money from the television companies, our teams must dance to their tune, and at Celtic that means not only dealing with the relentless churn of fixtures, but dealing with the expectation that you are going to win every single one of them.

That will never happen, of course, but Neil Lennon looks to have built his squad with an eye on the huge physical demands that are placed on his team.

The likes of Callum McGregor may play the majority of minutes this season, but there should be greater scope to give him a rest this term when required, rather than having to play 69 games, as he did last season.
