Former Celtic star Alan Thompson has revealed the advice he gave nephew Matty Longstaff before the midfielder scored the winner for Newcastle against Manchester United.
Longstaff, 19, netted a stunning goal against the Red Devils at St James' Park on Sunday to seal all three points for the Magpies.
Proud uncle Thompson, 45, dropped his relative a quick message before kick-off after discovering he'd be playing alongside brother Sean in the centre of midfield.
And he explained how he urged Longstaff to keep things simple - but couldn't hide his delight when the youngster drove a stunner past David De Gea.
"I sent Matty a text before the game just telling him, even though there are 52,000 there, you don't have to change the way you play," Thompson told Daily Mail.
"I told him not to complicate it, don't feel you have to try anything too magical — and then he puts one in from 25 yards!
"I was making the Sunday dinner and had to run back through to the living room.
"I was jumping all over, absolutely buzzing."
We told previously how Longstaff was pictured in a Hoops jersey after apparently being gifted it by his uncle.
Celts hero Thompson spent seven years at Parkhead as a player before working another two as a coach.
