Andy Gray claims that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has ‘got Alfredo Morelos right’ this year after calling the striker a ‘waste of time’ last season.

The 23-year-old has greatly improved his discipline and has netted a total of 20 goals so far this season.

During the 2018/19 campaign, Morelos missed numerous matches after being sent off a total of five times.

Speaking on beIN Sports, Gray said: "He might as well not have been a Rangers player.

"This year, whatever he has done, Steven Gerrard has got him right.

"He's responded and he's been excellent this year."

The former Rangers striker also pointed out that the arrival of Jermain Defoe could have impacted and enhanced Morelos’ performance.

He said: "Well he would. He's a threat."

The Ibrox gaffer stated that Morelos wasn’t leaving the club in the January transfer window, much to the fans’ relief.

Speaking after their 3-0 win over Hearts in the Betfred Cup semi-final, Gerrard said: "I’m not confident… I’m sure.

“I’m 100 per cent sure he’s not going anywhere.

“With all due respect, standing there last year I knew we were limited in the No 9 position. To stand there today with Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe behind me, I felt different."
