SCOTLAND fans hoping for another thrilling encounter against England at Hampden Park during EURO2020 next summer will have to console themselves with a trip to Wembley instead.

A Leigh Griffiths-inspired Scotland drew with the Auld Enemy in a memorable World Cup qualifier in June 2017, after the Celtic striker scored two brilliant free kicks in the closing minutes before Harry Kane broke Scottish hearts with a stoppage-time equaliser.

However, supporters dreaming of another home encounter against England will be left disappointed and, perhaps, nervous at the prospect of a journey south having enjoyed just one win over their old foes in 33 years.

As winners of qualifying Group A and a host nation, England have been guaranteed three home games for the finals. Meanwhile, Scotland - also a host nation but who have yet to even qualify for the finals - will be only be granted two home games should they manage to progress from a play-off series which begins on March 26 next year against Israel and either Norway or Serbia on March 31.

Hampden's first taste of EURO2020 finals’ action will come on Monday, June 15 when it hosts a Group D game. Two further Group D games will be staged in the famous old venue on Friday, June 19 and Tuesday, June 23 before a Round of 16 encounter, a week later, on Tuesday, June 30.

The stadium has been at the forefront of some of European football's biggest nights. The 1960 European Cup final, arguably the best ever, between Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt was held at the ground on Glasgow's south side. Forty-two years later it played host to the Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen when Zinedine Zidane's arcing volley won the 2002 Champions League for Los Merengues for a ninth time.

Rome's Stadio Olimpico will host the first match on June 12 while Wembley Stadium in London has been allocated both semi-finals and the final. Because the competition is being hosted across Europe, no countries were guaranteed automatic qualification. The 16th UEFA European Championships will be hosted in 12 countries for the first time ever as part of the competition's 60th anniversary celebrations. The finals will run from June 12 to July 12, 2020.
