HEARTS are expected to appoint Daniel Stendel as Craig Levein's successor in the Tyncastle dugout after the Gorgie club offered the German the job.
However, Stendel's former employers Barnsley have written a letter to the Hearts heirarchy demanding compensation for the 45-year-old German's services should he be given the job in the capital.
Stendel was relieved of his duties by the English Championship club in October, but the Daily Mail are reporting that the former Hannover boss remains on the payroll at Oakwell.

Barnsley chief executive Paul Conway told the Daily Mail: "We still have a valid contract with Daniel Stendel until the end of the season. There is already a tampering issue with us concerning his existing contract.
"And if anybody else is tampering with our rights, we are going to expect compensation.
"Hearts have our letter and we have notified them and, if they want to hire Daniel, that's fine, that's their choice.
"But they either pay us now or we will file a claim against them. And if any club wants to fight it, we will win."
