Celtic have been Scottish football's dominant force for a number of years now.

Their treble Treble success will be talked about for years to come.

Rangers meanwhile have been slowly returning to the fore under Steven Gerrard and have certainly been more competitive since the ex-Liverpool man took over.

This season so far, for example, has thrown up some interesting similarities.

The Betfred Cup final is too close to call - but the Celtic and Rangers defences will decide the outcome

Celtic have played 14 in the league, won 12, drawn once and lost once.

They've scored 44 and conceded eight.

Gers have played 14 in the Premiership, won 12, drawn once and lost just one, as well.

The only solitary difference in the table at the moment is that Celtic have scored just one goal more than their rivals, conceding the same number of strikes.

It looks increasingly more likely that the two teams will be back-and-forth until mid-may when the trophy is handed out.

That is, at least, according to statistical analysis website FiveThirtyEight.

The site predicts various league standings around world football and has forecasted that the league will go down to the wire this season.

Helicopter Sunday may come again as simulations predict that Celtic will finish on 95 points with Rangers at their heels on 94.

Ntcham: "I don’t watch Rangers - but I know every Glasgow derby is different and Celtic have to be focused"

The Hoops are also predicted by the site to finish the season with a goal difference two better than their counterparts.

FiveThirtyEight say Celtic's probability at winning the title is 54 per cent, compared to 46 per cent for Steven Gerrard's side, according to The Scotsman.

Third-place is predicted to go to Aberdeen - but they'll finish more than 30 points behind both Glasgow outfits.
