STEPHEN ROBINSON was frustrated Motherwell couldn’t pile the pressure on ten-man Rangers after being denied by an ‘incredible’ save from Allan McGregor.

The keeper pulled off a superb reaction stop to deny Chris Long with the game at 1-0 and the match was beyond the Steelmen when Alfredo Morelos doubled Rangers’ advantage.

The striker was sent off as he picked up a second yellow card for gesturing towards the home crowd in the aftermath of his decisive goal.

Robinson said: “I was disappointing as we knew we needed 11 players to be at the top of their game and we had five or six below par. Our decision making was a bit rushed as opposed to our usual patience.

“In saying that, we were only 1-0 down to a set play. There wasn’t a lot between the two teams and we should have been 1-1 if not for an incredible save from Allan McGregor.

“We were on top at that stage but when you get denied from a yard out by a save of that quality, you do tend to think it’s not going to be your day.

“Even at 2-0 Devante Cole had a brilliant opportunity but we didn’t take it and when you play against Rangers you need to take your chances. I thought our shape was excellent but we were not as good when we landed on the ball.

“We managed to nullify Rangers to an extent but we didn’t have the belief. There was a bit of fear for some reason, which was strange given our form.”

It emerged on Saturday evening that Robinson was arrested in Edinburgh on Friday night and will appear in court at a later date.

The Northern Irishman had earlier described the incident as a ‘misunderstanding’ and insisted after the game it had no impact on his preparations for the Rangers clash.

Robinson said: “It had no effect whatsoever. We were off on Friday but we trained on Saturday and I was there. So not at all.

“I don’t think I need to say anything about that at the moment.”
