RYAN JACK has backed Alfredo Morelos to recover from his Fir Park red card after revealing Rangers players were targeted by missiles thrown from the home crowd.

Morelos picked up a second yellow card for his celebrations after he clinched a hard-fought win for Steven Gerrard's side as referee Don Robertson took a dim view of a gesture towards the Well support.

It is the first time that Morelos - who was sent off five times last term - has been dismissed this season and boss Gerrard had no complaints over the decision.

Jack was left bemused by his booking for a brief altercation as the teams made their way up the tunnel and pictures later showed coins, a lighter and a bovril being hurled towards the Light Blues in the aftermath of Morelos' winner.

Jack said: "Alfredo has been excellent this season. I think his discipline has been unbelievable.

"Today he maybe let it get the better of him and maybe over-celebrated towards the Motherwell fans. But Alfredo will bounce back.

"He has been superb for us this season, has won us so many games and scored so many goals. He will bounce back.

"He has just seen himself going to celebrate. I don’t think he has meant anything by it. The referee said that by the law it is a yellow card.

"It’s a frustrating one because he has been on fire for us, scoring so many goals and winning us games but, as I said, Jermain has been excellent and he will be waiting for his chance.

"There were a few coins and whatever else [thrown during the celebrations]. We don’t complain we just get on with it.

"If people are going to throw missiles and coins and whatever else at you, I think you have a right to celebrate. That’s how I see it and I stand by it. But obviously the referee has seen it differently."
