Kieran Tierney faces a race against time to be fit for Scotland's crunch Nations League play-off against Israel in March.
The defender dislocated his shoulder in a game against West Ham last month.
It had initially been feared that he could be out until early March and the news was confirmed by Arsenal on their club website.

Providing an injury update on KT, the Gunners revealed the ex-Celtic man had undergone an operation on his injury.
They said: "Kieran has had successful surgery and will now rehabilitate for around three months, aiming to return to full training in March."
Tierney, 22, has previously been missing from Steve Clarke's squad as his club hoped to nurse him back to health.
The left-back suffered with a thigh and hernia problem before his 'secret' shoulder injury was uncovered.
Tierney has 12 caps for Scotland.
