Saturday's fixture calendar in Scottish football was blitzed by torrential rain and dreadful playing conditions.

A number of matches in the SPFL were postponed including the likes of Dundee vs Ayr Utd and Alloa at home to Arbroath.

The so-called luxury of call-offs was not extended to a host of games in the Kelme Scottish Amateur Cup where the love of the game was enough to see clashes go on even in treacherous conditions.

The fifth round ties were contested by a number of clubs and 12 of the 15 matches survived.

There were notable casualties.

Much-fancied Harestanes and Bannockburn from the Central Scottish AFA both exited to Lothian and Edinburgh AFA ‘Thistles’, Lauriston and Tollcross.

Eastfield, last season’s runners-up and another CSAFA outfit, face a difficult replay at Bishopbriggs against Glasgow Harp of the Caledonian League after an exciting 2-2 draw.

Castlemilk Dynamo, of the CSAFA Shortlees ended 0-0 despite its billing of tie of the round.

Renowned cup specialists Oban Saints recorded the round’s most emphatic result defeating Renfrew Town 5-1 at home.

It was a good day for both the Lothian and Edinburgh and Midlands (Dundee) amateur associations. Both saw three of their teams secure their place in the hat for the sixth round draw.

Tollcross Thistle, Lauriston Thistle, Sandys and Merpro all made it through. As did Menzieshill and Fintry.
