FORMER Celtic and Aberdeen star Gary Mackay-Steven reckons there are similarities between his new boss Ronny Deila at New York City FC and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Scotland winger has been reunited with Norwegian Deila after he managed him at Parkhead, following the former Celtic boss' appointment as the new manager at the MLS club, after three years at Oslo club Valarenga.

And Mackay-Steven believes there are plenty of similarities between Klopp and Deila.

He said: "He used to celebrate victories at Celtic by engaging with the supporters and walking round. It's not unlike Jurgen Klopp because he feeds off atmospheres and sees the benefits of a crowd being behind the team and the power that it brings.

"So he's really into using the crowd to our advantage and I'm sure he will want to do that here.

Glasgow Times:

"He's very in tow with your typical modern manager by wanting you to make sure you look after yourself on and off the field.

"He's a really open and vocal coach. He gets his information across, He's hands-on and has a really good knowledge of the game. Tactically, he focuses on attacking. There's no stone he leaves unturned.

"He likes entertaining football and the fans will enjoy watching his style and the players we have got here will be suited to what he wants and he will be a great fit.

"He likes his teams to give 100 per cent and leave nothing on the pitch."
And the 29-year-old, in a podcast interview with prosoccerusa.com, is certain he will enjoy a good season under Deila after getting a full pre-season under his belt, unlike last season where he arrived halfway through the term from Aberdeen.

He said: "There was a lot I struggled with at first. Once I did eventually feel better the season was coming to a close.

"But it's a new season and I feel a lot better and I can't wait to get going again.

"Ronny is a really intense manager and he likes his teams to press a lot and always be on the front foot and he likes his teams to be really physically fit and go for 90 minutes of high intensity.

"We've done a lot of running and it's been tough, but we will definitely reap the benefits. So that's been noticable in his first week of pre-season.

"I think he’s a perfect manager for the players we’ve got here."
