The man who spotted Odsonne Edouard as a youngster has revealed how a twist of fate altered the young French striker's career path.

Head scout at Paris Saint-Germain, Pierre Reynaud, had planned to watch another French prospect at Lilas FC but was unable to cast an eye after heavy snowfall abandoned their game against Saint-Denis amateur side.

Instead, Reynaud took in a match at a nearby football pitch and was delighted to see a young Edouard strutting his stuff. "I saw there was another game on a neighbouring pitch,” he told The Athletic.

Odsonne Edouard named on UEFA top prospect list for 2020 alongside Barcelona and Manchester United stars

"It was Bobigny, and there was a younger boy playing for them who I noticed straight away. I asked the coach about him, and he replied that his name was Odsonne Edouard. I thought, ‘OK, I think we’ll follow him…'"

Edouard netted his 18th goal of the season against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Wednesday evening with a clever turn and shot before Leigh Griffiths and Christopher Jullien sealed the points.

But Edouard's goal was typical of the former PSG star, according to Reynaud. "He was excellent in front of goal," the scout added. "He didn’t tend to blast it; he placed it, side-footed it, and his reading of the game was excellent.

"He always looked to see where the goalkeeper was before shooting, his quality of finishing was rare for someone of that age and he was very two-footed."

Edouard, 22, has also netted 11 goals in just six appearances this term for France under-21s.
