STEVEN GERRARD is confident Rangers will do business in the final days of the transfer window as he sweats on the fitness of striker Jermain Defoe.

The Englishman was stretchered off in the second half of the win over Ross County last night and will be assessed in the coming hours to determine to extent of his calf injury.

That could force Gerrard to add to his transfer plans and look to bring in another striker before the close of business on Friday evening.

"I'm concerned but I don't know how long the injury will keep him out,” Gerrard said of Defoe, who opened the scoring four minutes before the break.

“I don’t think it’s as bad as going off on a stretcher makes it look. He’s walking about in dressing room.

“He’ll be scanned in the next 24 hours and we’ll know more about it then. But he has got a calf injury - whether it will be a week, two weeks, three or four weeks, I don’t know.

“Possibly [we could go into the market for a striker]. I haven’t spoken to Ross Wilson about that situation yet. We have a couple of things brewing besides that.

“It might alter a few things, it depends on the extent of the injury. We’ll decide from there.

“In general, I’m confident we could add before the window closes. We will also assess Jermain’s situation and go from there.”

It was reported this week that Rangers could look to offload wingers Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker in the coming days as Gerrard shapes his squad for the second half of the season.

Neither wide man has made an impression this term but, when asked about their future, Gerrard said: “Not that I’ve heard. We haven’t had any calls or bids for those two.”
