Could Kenny Miller be the man to fill the void at Rangers after Jermain Defoe's injury against Ross County last night?

That's the question the veteran striker had fans asking this morning after his wife posted a light-hearted teaser on social media. Laura Miller shared a snap of her hubby reading Herald and Times Sport pages where we told how Steven Gerrard looks set to dip his toe back in the market for a new hitman.

She jokingly asked: "What's that you're reading?"

Miller has enjoyed three spells already as a Rangers player, scoring 116 goals in near 300 combined appearances. The veteran, 40, is currently without a club after leaving Partick Thistle by mutual consent earlier this month.

He has also had spells at Livingston and Dundee in recent years.

Meanwhile Rangers boss Gerrard has confirmed Defoe's injury could indeed force his side's hand into moving for a striker this window. Alfredo Morelos remains the only fit frontman after Defoe was stretchered off last night.

"I'm concerned but I don't know how long the injury will keep him out,” Gerrard said of Defoe, who opened the scoring four minutes before the break against the Staggies.

“I don’t think it’s as bad as going off on a stretcher makes it look. He’s walking about in dressing room.

“He’ll be scanned in the next 24 hours and we’ll know more about it then. But he has got a calf injury - whether it will be a week, two weeks, three or four weeks, I don’t know.

“Possibly [we could go into the market for a striker]. I haven’t spoken to Ross Wilson about that situation yet. We have a couple of things brewing besides that.

“It might alter a few things, it depends on the extent of the injury. We’ll decide from there.

“In general, I’m confident we could add before the window closes. We will also assess Jermain’s situation and go from there.”
