Celtic fans watched manager Neil Lennon apparently mouth "f*** off" to Mikey Johnston during last night's win over St Johnstone - and reckon the winger got off lightly.

That is, compared to Manchester United star Jesse Lingard, who was ripped to shreds by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg.

Sky Sports cameras caught the Norwegian warning the England player that if he loses possession "one more time and you're f***ing off". And Lingard, indeed, was withdrawn moments later.

One Hoops fan was then quick to draw comparisons between Lennon and Ole, commenting: "One for the Celtic fans greeting about Lennon". The contrast racked up hundreds of likes and shares with many other fans applauding.

"Mikey J got off lightly," one responded with a laughing emoji. "Seen that at the time, quite right. Love to see it," another quipped.

One fan wrote: "I'm 100% behind Lennon on this, MJ is a s****bag".

Others backed Johnston, claiming Lennon was wrong to react the way he did. "Neil should not have behaved the way he did," one fan said. "He had every right to be angry but shouldn't hang a player out to dry like that in front of the cameras."

Johnston's injury did not cost Celtic any points, in the end, as they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at McDiarmid Park. Olivier Ntcham, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths netted.

Meanwhile United also beat rivals Man City on the night at the Etihad, only to lose 3-2 on aggregate.
