HAMILTON assistant manager Guillame Beuzelin believes that Leigh Griffiths should have been sent off for standing on Accies player Sam Woods in the loss to Celtic, and that the game may have turned out differently had the forward been dismissed.

Beuzelin led Hamilton from the dugout for the first time in the absence of suspended manager Brian Rice, and he says that everyone in the home technical area agreed with his assessment of the clash between the players.

“Watching live that’s what I thought,” said Beuzelin. “We all thought that on the bench, and we were 30 metres away. Maybe the angle the ref had meant he couldn’t see that.

“The fourth official or assistant maybe could have helped him. If it happened it would have been a massive turnaround, but I don’t want to comment on that.

“We already have one banned, I don’t want to be!”

Beuzelin though had few complaints about the red card that followed soon after for his own side, saying that youngster Jamie Hamilton must heed the lessons of the afternoon.

“It’s a bit soft but Jamie needs to learn,” he said. “He’s 17, facing a great player with the experience of Leigh Griffiths, who’s turned him.

“He needs to not get so tight and then we were punished from the free-kick.

“It was mixed emotions in the dressing room. On the negative we have zero points again. But on the positive we competed for 74 minutes with the side that are top of the league. We managed to be 1-0 up then the sending off was a bit of a blow for us.

“The boys produced a performance, especially defensively. But it wasn’t good enough at the end.

“Fatigue was there and when you have a lack of concentration a team like this punishes you. It’s hard to take but there are positives overall in the performances.

“The boys were tired, but they kept defending well. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to get a point.”
