Finn Russell has once again been left out of Scotland’s Six Nations squad.

The former Glasgow Warriors fly-half has been omitted from the squad to play England at BT Murrayfield on Saturday.

The Racing 92 star missed Scotland's 19-12 defeat to Ireland in Dublin on Saturday after being disciplined for breaching team rules last week following an alleged late-night drinking session at the Dark Blues' team hotel.

The 27-year-old had held a "positive" meeting with Gregor Townsend and was assured that the situation was resolvable.

He was reportedly told that he could remain with the squad to help the team prepare for the Ireland game. He was instructed to take Tuesday off, while Wednesday was a rest day, so was asked to come back into camp on Thursday morning.

However, Russell instead opted to return to Paris to start preparing to play for Racing 92 versus Castres.

Adam Hastings is expected to once again fill in at fly-half after impressing against Ireland.

Asked yesterday about the likelihood of Russell returning to the squad for next Saturday’s Calcutta Cup clash, Townsend said: “We will see,” he replied. “It is not something I have thought about since the end of the game.”

Worcester Warriors stand-off Duncan Weir remains in the squad having joined last week in place of Russell, while Darcy Graham (knee) is not available through injury.

England lost on their last Calcutta Cup visit to Murrayfield in 2018, and they will arrive in the Scottish capital following a 24-17 defeat against France last Sunday.
