James McClean has aimed a pop at Rangers over their attempts to sign Stoke City teammate Tyrese Campbell.

The Irish winger shared a photo on Instagram of himself cuddling the striker and explained the embrace was because Campbell "turned Sevco down" on his advice.

He said: "When you convince @tyekaicampbell to see sense and turn down Sevco and he listens", with a laughing emoji.

The post and caption racked up thousands of likes and Campbell even responded by revealing "few words from uncle macca was all it took".

Campbell has been a serious transfer target for Gers boss Steven Gerrard this season but opted to re-sign a new deal with The Potters after manager Michael O'Neill offered terms.

Celtic had also been keen on the frontman before he signed his new contract.

Hoops fans on social media were delighted with McClean and Campbell's interaction. One laughed: "James McClean CSC", before another added: "James McClean, what a man."

Another supporter even went a step further, urging the Glasgow champions to SIGN the player. McClean scored the opener in his side's 3-1 victory over Charlton this afternoon.
