FORMER Celtic defender Jackie McNamara is reportedly "awake and talking" following an operation for a suspected brain hemorrhage.

The 46-year-old collapsed at home at the weekend and underwent brain surgery at Hull Royal Infirmary, where his condition was described as "critical but stable" on Tuesday afternoon.

The Scottish Sun are reporting that the former Partick Thistle and Dundee United manager is now conscious and communicating with family and medical staff.

"He's up speaking. He's in and out of consciousness," close friend Darren Jackson told PLZ Soccer.

The Daily Record are also reporting that McNamara is conscious following his operation, citing a tweet from another friend, Paul Larkin, that read: "Jackie is now awake and talking. Still very early days but keep those thoughts and prayers going folks.”
