GRAEME MURTY has seen his Rangers kids take on the challenges of an Old Firm clash and European encounter. Now he needs them to rise to the occasion in the cup.

The Under-20s face Inverness Caley Thistle tomorrow in the semi-finals of the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup as they look to continue their impressive run in the competition this term.

The Gers drew 1-1 with Celtic in the Glasgow Cup earlier this month and were beaten 4-0 by Atletico Madrid on Wednesday as they were knocked out of the UEFA Youth League.

But boss Murty is confident his players will respond in the right manner as they look to shock their Championship hosts and clinch a final berth.

He said: “I have said to the guys you have a week now where you have played Celtic, Atletico Madrid and then a semi-final of a major cup in Scotland.

“Rangers teams get that every season, so how are you going to deal with it? You have to recover now. You are a little bit low, so pick yourself up and be ready for a completely different type of challenge on Sunday.

“Top teams turn around, they get rid of all the emotion, all the stuff that is dragging them, and be professional. They have to reenergise and make sure that come Sunday they are ready to go and ready to deal with whatever problems we get caused.

“What we have proved so far this season is that regardless of the setback or regardless of the challenge that we can step up to it. I am excited to see what they do.

“For some of these guys, that will be the biggest setback they have had, the biggest doing they have had. It is tough. We have to give them the tools to deal with it and still come out on Sunday and say ‘give me the ball, I am still a good player’.

“That is what our Academy is built on, that is our method of play and we will now see who is resilient enough to go and do it on Sunday.”
