Hull City head coach Grant McCann has confirmed that Scotland Under-21 international James Scott's season is over due to an ankle injury.

The 19-year-old forward sustained the injury in his first training session with the club after moving to the Tigers in a £1.5 million deadline day transfer from Motherwell at the end of last month.

Scott will also need to undergo an operation to mend the problem and is likely to be sidelined for up to four months.

McCann said: “James will not play again this season unfortunately. He’s going to need an operation.

“We’re gutted for the boy because he’s only just come to the football club. We’ve got the reports back after seeing the specialist and he’s going to need an operation just to tidy his ankle up a little bit. It’s a gutting one for us all.

“He’ll be back for pre-season and it’ll be like having the new player he is again."
