Scotland has all but secured two Champions League places for the 21-22 season following a momentous night in the Europa League. 

Scotland has now risen up to 14th in the UEFA coefficient ranking - a place that would see them secure two teams in Champions League qualifiers from 2021-22.

Fraser Forster saved a VAR-awarded penalty as Celtic drew 1-1 with FC Copenhagen in their Europa League last-32 tie in Denmark.

Neil Lennon's side contributed .250 national coefficient points to the Scottish total following said result.

Meanwhile, Rangers looked to be on the brink of a home defeat before a 3-2 comeback against Portuguese outfit Braga at Ibrox. 

Steven Gerrard's side, who trailed 2-0 after 60 minutes secured .500 national coefficient points for Scotland with a thrilling 3-2 win. 

The result takes Scotland above the Czech Republic and into 14th place for the 21-22 season, resulting in two Champions League qualification places. 

National coefficients are based on the results of each association's clubs in the five previous UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League seasons.

This years access list has already been predetermined and this year's results will not have an impact until 2021/22.

This means that Scottish clubs will enter European competition at the same point as they did this season.

Scotland is currently the 6th ranked nation for coefficient points gained so far this season.
