Sean Maitland: Quietly effective in defence and played consistently well in attack. 7
Chris Harris: Defended diligently as Italy tried to force their way back into the contest and finished well for second-half try. 8
Sam Johnson: Combined well with outside runners to keep attack ticking over. 7
Blair Kinghorn: Looked alert in defence and was an occasional threat in attack - though promising break led to dangerous counter-attack by home team. 7
Adam Hastings: Missed three out of four place-kicks but held his nerve to vary attack well and finished off with team’s third try. 7
Ali Price: Up in support well to claim what he thought was a try but was ruled out for forward pass. 7
Rory Sutherland: Scrummaged powerfully right from the start to put Italians on back foot. 8
Stuart McInally: Lively and reliable on his return to the starting line-up. 7
Zander Fagerson: Strong carrier in loose as well as crucial player at set piece. 7
Ben Toolis: Disrupted opposition lineout well and was a solid source of ball on own throw. 7
Scott Cummings: Carried effectively in the loose and was solid in set piece. 7
Jamie Ritchie: Combined well in defence with Hamish Watson but was denied try by Polledri tackle. 8
Hamish Watson: Intelligent defence produced some valuable turnovers but forward pass saw Price touchdown chalked off. 8
Magnus Bradbury: Nearly produced team’s second try at start of second half. 7
Substitutes:
Matt Fagerson: On for Bradbury after 55 minutes.
George Horne: Replaced Price at same time and was quickly involved in support play.
Allan Dell: Also a 55th-minute sub.
WP Nel: On with Dell to shore up front row.
Fraser Brown: Had last 20 in place of McInally.
Rory Hutchinson: Replaced Harris on hour mark.
Grant Gilchrist: Took over from Toolis for last dozen minutes.
Byron McGuigan: Late change for Maitland.
