Former Celtic midfielder Kris Commons has aimed a pop at Rangers' Ryan Kent - claiming the winger is not justifying his price tag or even a starting berth.

Commons has watched Kent flatter to deceive this season, scoring just six goals - only one at home - and providing ZERO assists from an attacking position.

The 23-year-old was previously voted young player of the year for the Ibrox side last season but has not come close to hitting the same heights this season since his £7m permanent move from Liverpool in the summer.

And Commons reckons Rangers should feel short-changed for the return they've received on their investment. "In terms of players who have been posted missing, it's Ryan Kent who has been the main culprit," Commons wrote in his Daily Mail column.

"Seriously, what's he doing to justify his place in the team right now? Kent has scored just one solitary goal at Ibrox all season. Just let that sink in for a moment.

"Not what you expect from a £7million marquee signing, is it? In total, he has six league goals and zero assists.

"Kent is bringing nothing to the table at the moment. For a winger to be playing for a club like Rangers and have no assists at this stage of the season is a pitiful return. The best I've seen him play was in the game at Celtic Park back in December but you could say that about pretty much every other Rangers player.

"He was a loan player from Liverpool last season and basically had no pressure on him. It was a free hit for him to go out and impress.

"The dynamic has changed now. Rangers spent top dollar to buy him on a permanent basis. At the moment, they're bound to feel a bit short-changed."

Commons also hit out at Alfredo Morelos' form since he returned from the winter break in Dubai. The Colombian has scored just once in eight games since Rangers beat Celtic at Parkhead on December 29.

"Defence isn't the issue," Commons added. "Rangers' main problems have been at the other end of the pitch. That's where they've been found wanting.

"It's now almost two months since Alfredo Morelos last scored a league goal for Rangers. What on earth's happened to him?

"Boxing Day was the last time he found the net in the Premiership when he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox. He looks a shadow of the player we saw in the first half of the season. Maybe, during the winter break, Rangers misplaced him in Dubai and returned home to Glasgow with an imposter.

"Or perhaps the player is deeply unhappy at how the club have handled his off-field affairs over the past few weeks. I know I certainly would be."
