Ex-Celtic star Ross Wallace has opened up on the 'morgue' atmosphere of Helicopter Sunday when Rangers swiped the Premiership title from under the Hoops' noses.

Celts only needed to hold onto their 1-0 lead at Motherwell with two minutes to go to win the title when Scott McDonald stepped up and buried two strikes into the net to hand Gers the title.

The Light Blues, meanwhile, managed a 1-0 win over Hibs at Easter Road and celebrated wildly when news filtered through that the Steel Men had helped them secure the title.

Wallace - who watched from the stands - recalled expecting furious fireworks to fly as he headed to the changing room. But, instead, the silence was deafening as his teammates knew they'd blown it. "I was in the stand and came down and asked to check my win bonus for being in the squad," he told Si Ferry on Open Goal

"Then it's been bang, bang. I came down and it was like a morgue. Everyone shut the door and it was silence for a good 10 or 15 minutes. Nobody said a thing.

"Martin [O'Neill] was sitting in the corner, absolutely gutted. We had it in our hands and threw it away. [Watching from the stands] you're starting to think, 'What's going to be said downstairs? Is it going to kick-off?' But I think they just knew.

"It was some finish to be fair. I can't remember, I think we got it in the corner and someone should've gone to the corner - we'll blame Beatts [Craig Beattie]. They've had a shot and Motherwell have went up and scored."
