BT SPORT presenter Darrell Currie has hit out at Neil Doncaster on Twitter after the SPFL chief executive took a dig at the broadcaster's coverage of Scottish football.

Speaking on the Price of Football podcast, Doncaster stated that he believed the new TV deal with Sky that kicks in next year will "see the Scottish game given the profile and coverage it deserves".

He continued: "2009 was the last time we had an exclusive partner. Since then, rights have been shared so it’s perhaps no surprise the broadcasters haven’t given it the love they show other leagues.

"I’m confident we will see a sea change in the approach with Sky taking up the reigns exclusively."

Doncaster's remarks provoked a strong response from Currie, who took to Twitter to vent his frustration at the SPFL supremo.

"Totally disrespectful from Doncaster here," he wrote.

"To suggest BT Sport haven’t given the SPFL the ‘love they show other leagues’.

"Absolutely pathetic - we’ve given everything to our coverage. Also, he’s told us in person how much he’s enjoyed our work.

"Pathetic."
