Ian Wright has hailed Leicester City captain Wes Morgan as a better skipper than Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard - because he lifted the Premier League trophy.

Ex-Celtic and Arsenal hitman Wright, of course, still rates the current Rangers manager highly and as one of the top names on the list. However, given his never having won the title, Gerrard was knocked off top perch by triumphant Morgan.

The latter captained his Foxes to their memorable 2015/16 victory when they boasted the likes of Riyad Mahrez and N'golo Kante in their ranks. And that's why Wright, 56, has Morgan at the top of his 10-man list of all-time skippers.

Speaking on Match of the Day's Top 10 podcast, Wright said: "Wes Morgan won a Premier League title with a Leicester side no one expected. The fact is Steven Gerrard nearly did it. He nearly led Liverpool to it.

"But Wes Morgan with the team he had and the way Leicester did it. It's a miracle. It's the miracle of the Premier League, with journeymen and people we didn't know.

"Obviously Kante and Mahrez, they came out of the blue, Vardy. And then he [Morgan] had to keep them going through that season."
