Former Celtic winger Paul McGowan claims Brendan Rodgers was furious when Steven Caulker refused to sign for the Hoops.

The ex-Liverpool defender was in talks with the then-Celtic boss to join him at Parkhead back in 2017.

Having left QPR, Caulker was offered a three-year deal under Rodgers. However despite having previously worked together at Swansea, the pair fell out and Rodgers was furious when Caulker snubbed the deal.

Eventually he went on to play with McGowan at Dundee before moving to Turkey.

"Would [Caulker] have played for a Celtic or Rangers? Easy," McGowan told Si Ferry's Keeping the Ball on the Ground podcast. "He said that Rodgers fell out with him, though I don't know how true it is.

"This is coming from Steven, Rodgers was raging with him. Rodgers was on the phone to him saying, 'I'll take you to Celtic and give you a three-year deal'.

"But what he would be getting at Celtic, for the year he was at QPR, he was making more.

"He told Brendan, 'no I'm not signing' and Brendan was supposedly fuming with him."
