Andy Halliday hasn't played a lot of football under the leadership of Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.

The 28-year-old has struggled to shoulder his way into the Light Blues starting line-up with no no available spot in midfield and Borna Barisic appearing to be the prefered left-back at Ibrox.

But despite his lack of game time, Gers hero Alan Hutton insists his former club should offer Halliday a new deal simply for his experience alone.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Halliday’s out of contract, will they keep him in?

"He seems to be favoured at left-back with [Borna] Barisic.

“I would hand him a new deal. I think he knows what it’s all about to play for Rangers.

"Whenever he’s been called on he’s done a job, whether it be at left-back – it can be difficult for players to be shifted about.

“I think he has, over the period of time, done well when he’s filled in. These are the sort of players that you need.

“I’ve spoke a million times about players with experience who know how to fight, work hard, knows what the fans want, puts in 100 per cent every time – these are the kind of guys you need in your squad.

"If it was up to me, I would definitely hand him something.”
