PARTICK THISTLE have praised the “humbling” support of the club’s fans as they announced that over £100,000 had been raised to support the Championship side.

Thistle also announced a refund for season ticket holders for the 2019/20 campaign, following on from the passing of the SPFL resolution last week that confirmed that the season was officially concluded, meaning the club’s five remaining home fixtures would not be fulfilled.

As of yesterday, the Maryhill side had sold over £40,000 worth of season tickets for the next campaign, with a GoFundMe led by supporter Caroline Mackie nearing £30,000. Additionally, Thistle have received around £20,000 in the form of donations from fans with a further £10,000 raised from club initiatives, such as the option for supporters to buy a club tile, participate in a virtual 50/50 halftime draw and the sponsorship of players.

A club spokesperson said: “Our starting point is to say another sincere ‘thank you’ to all supporters in the Partick Thistle family, who have rallied round in so many ways over the past month or so.

“We are in unprecedented times and know that many of you are experiencing difficulties of your own. That makes the total revenues generated since the middle of March humbling – the figure has now just passed the £100,000 mark.

“To have raised this sum of money in such a short space of time is overwhelming and all the more remarkable given this is a time when we are unable to host matchdays – again, we can’t thank fans enough. As we have said before, we are tackling this situation in phases and this income helps ensure the club remains in a strong position despite all the current uncertainly.”

The statement concluded: “Once again, we thank all fans for their incredible support, financial or otherwise, in recent weeks and hope this latest update is helpful to you. Most of all, we continue to encourage you to follow government and NHS advice and look after yourselves and one another.

“There is nothing more important than the wellbeing of all connected with Partick Thistle. Football will eventually return to Firhill - and we want to see everyone there.”

Season ticket holders are eligible for a refund for Thistle’s five remaining home fixtures that have been cancelled, with the club requesting that any application must be received by May 1, adding that: “The club fully appreciates that a refund may be much needed in some households at this time.

"So those season ticket holders should request a refund, instructions for doing so are below. Refunds should be applied for no later than Friday, 1 May."

The club requested that any supporters who were in a position to do so to not request a refund; if every season ticket holder did so, Thistle said, the total cost to the club would be around £80,000.

"However, to put it in to context, should all 2019/20 season ticket holders claim a refund the total cost to the club would be in excess of £80,000 –  so any fans who can afford to consider not taking up the offer would help assist with the club’s current financial considerations."
