Gary Harkins has announced his retirement from professional football after an almost 20-year career.

The former Dundee, Morton, Partick Thistle and Kilmarnock midfielder has hung up the boots via social media this afternoon.

Sharing photos and memories from his career, including when he lifted the League Cup at Killie back in 2012, Harkins thanked supporters for the memories.

Writing on Twitter he said: "Having played professional football for 19 years, now it’s time for me to call it a day. I’ve been lucky enough to play for many great clubs and it’s been great to play the game and share the dressing room with some amazing people over the years.

"To the fans who have supported me over the years I hope I’ve given back a bit of enjoyment to you in the stands. Was a pleasure to play in front of you, thanks for all the memories!"

Harkins also counts Blackburn Rovers, St Mirren, Ayr United and, most recently Stenhousemuir, among his former clubs.
