THE SPFL have have asked their member clubs if they would consider a permanent change to a 14-10-10-10 set-up.
The SPFL board met today to discuss the implications of the coronavirus crisis and the start of the 2020/21 campaign.
Proposals by Hearts to adopt a 14-14-14 and Rangers to move to a 14-14-18 and incorporate Celtic and Rangers B teams in the bottom division have been rejected.
But changing to a 14-10-10-10 - a move that would see Hearts, Partick Thistle and Stranraer avoid relegation and Brora Rangers and Kelty Hearts join the senior leagues - is a possibility.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Falkirk and Edinburgh City would all get promoted as well.
Clubs have until 10am on Monday to respond and if there is enough support for the plan an extraordinary general meeting will then be held.
It would require 17 of the 22 Premiership and Championship clubs and 32 from all four divisions to back the change for it to be passed.
