SCOTTISH Championship clubs have voted in favour of a 27-game season next term and pencilled in October 17 as a start date for the 2020/21 campaign.
Eight out of the 10 second-tier clubs voted in favour of a shortened fixture list, with teams set to play nine fewer games than they otherwise would.
Some matches could be played behind closed doors, with the eight sides who voted in favour of the proposal agreeing to the possibility.
The mid-October start date is only provisional at this time, report the BBC, and clubs are still awaiting the green light to return to training after top-flight clubs were given the go-ahead earlier this week.
The decision comes ahead of tomorrow's indicative vote on league reconstruction, where clubs will submit their ballots in favour or against an expanded Premiership in a 14-10-10-10 set-up.
