To say that the announcement made by Celtic on the virtual season ticket was not well received is probably a bit of an understatement. Between social media and phone-ins, fans vented their anger at plans, which say we will not be entitled to a refund for games watched behind closed doors.

Now granted, Celtic are guaranteeing that supporters who buy a season ticket will have access to watch what they have paid for. But the scenario becomes more difficult when it comes to households with multiple season tickets. A family of three season ticket holders could be paying roughly £70-80 per game to watch from their home.

That's certainly far more expensive than any Sky or BT package and I can totally understand any grievances people in that scenario might have. Then there's the less tech-savvy supporters who could be left in the dark with the games going online. Where is the value for them?

Some fans are left with a difficult decision on whether or not to renew ahead of what could be a potentially record-breaking season. Most people have been affected financially by this ongoing pandemic and, at a time like this, where possible Celtic should be trying to assist fans who have backed them throughout this journey so far.

The truth, whether some fans from other teams want to believe it, is that Celtic are a cash-rich team. Prior to the pandemic kicking in, they had a reported £35m in the bank, a vastly reduced wage bill from the quoted £60m from Brendan Rodgers' time at the clib and prize money for winning their ninth consecutive league title.

I would be very surprised if season tickets didn't sell out once again, with a massive waiting list of people ready to part with their money, even if current holders do not. The club is playing heavily on the push for their 10th title and how the fans backing would be massive for the team.

That's why, despite all the complaints and gripes people had with the announcement, I feel they will still renew their tickets. The fear of not being around for the 10 will hit hard as we close in on the deadline. But Celtic should not take that for granted. The club has to reward their loyal supporters. What that reward may be, who knows. Season Tickets could be reduced to last seasons levels, there could be a free home kit for each fan, free tickets for European/Cup matches once we can return to Celtic Park.

The unfortunate answer is that there is no easy solution, I feel for club SLO John Paul Taylor who always tries his best to respond to questions and criticisms. He is a fan himself and the decisions are made above his head.

The legendary Jock Stein once said that "Football without fans is nothing" and Celtic would do well to remember that.
