GAVIN STRACHAN is set to replace Damien Duff at Celtic’s first-team coach.

The son of former Parkhead manager Gordon is currently working as first-team coach with Peterborough, but it is understood that Neil Lennon’s team have agreed compensation with the English League One side.

Posh director of football Barry Fry said: “I have agreed a deal with Celtic’s lawyer and Gavin Strachan has also agreed a deal with the club.

"We don’t want to lose him, but we cannot stand in the way of such a big job. The deal should be completed on Monday.”

Speaking to the Mail, Fry added: “We’ve spoken to Celtic and we’re not going to stand in Gavin’s way.

“If they choose him, there’s a deal in place and it would be another great signing for Neil and Celtic.

“They’re a massive club and when Celtic come calling you can’t stand in anyone’s way.”

Strachan was under contract at the Posh until 2022, but after his father’s success at Celtic, it was a move he could not turn down.

The 41-year-old has a strong relationship with Neil Lennon and completed his coaching badges with Hoops assistant John Kennedy.

Strachan will replace Duff who departed his role to take up a position with the Ireland national team.
