Celtic will discover their Champions League qualifier opponents for the new season in early August, it has been revealed.

UEFA confirmed the competition will return with single-leg matches to determine which clubs will make the group stages, with Celtic vying to do so for the first time in three years. The draw itself will dictate whether the Hoops will play their game at home or away.

The governing body have mapped out their revised calendar in dealing with the current coronavirus pandemic and the single-leg games will begin with the preliminary round on August 8 and 11.

The first qualifying round will begin a week later on August 18/19 and then the second will be August 25/26 and the third a short time later in September, 15/16. The play-offs will be contested as a more traditional two-legged affair on 22/23 and 29/30 September and the group stage will kick-off on October 20/21.

It is not yet known who Celtic might get in the qualifiers.

Meanwhile Rangers' key dates are also in the books. The Europa League this season will continue shortly and, if they can bypass Bayer Leverkusen with a turnaround victory in Germany, they'll play the last-16 leg on August 5/6.

Next season's qualifiers begin with the preliminary round on August 20 while the first round takes place on August 27, round two on September 17, three on September 24 and the play-off on October 1. All matches will be single-leg contests.
