DRUMCHAPEL UNITED have completed a sensational swoop for ex-Hamilton captain Darian MacKinnon.

MacKinnon, 34, has joined the ambitious Glasgow minnows after his departure from Partick Thistle was confirmed last week.

Drumchapel were in the junior ranks until last month but are preparing to compete in in Conference C of the new West of Scotland League set-up next term.

That is the seventh tier of the Scottish pyramid, two leagues below the Lowland League and a potential crack at the SPFL through the playoffs.

A Drumchapel statement confirmed: “The club are delighted to announce the signing of ex-Hamilton Accies captain and Partick Thistle midfielder Darian MacKinnon.

“Daz is a player who knows all about football at this level having played with Clydebank FC before making his move senior eight years ago.

“Welcome to the Drum.”

MacKinnon was most recently on the books of the Jags but was unable to halt their contentious slide into the Championship after joining the club in January.

The combative midfielder has previous experience in the amateur game with the likes of Dumbarton United, St Thomas’, St Patrick's Athletic and Clydebank - but went on to earn hero status at Accies after making more than 250 appearances for the club.
