Hibs are poised to sign Dunfermline striker Kevin Nisbet ahead of Dundee United.
The Tangerines had been tracking Nisbet for months under former manager Robbie Neilson but Hibs have stolen a march on their Premiership rivals and hope to seal the deal as early as the start of next week.
Jack Ross has also tracked Nisbet for a while and Herald and Times Sport understands the player's first choice of club to join is the Easter Road outfit. It comes with a fee believed to be worth around £250,000 to the Pars who recently released 17 players due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Hibs themselves have not been in the best place financially in recent times, with owner Ron Gordon reportedly ready to cut costs by releasing staff members including coach Colin Nish and Grant Murray.
Hotshot Nisbet struck 18 goals in just 25 games last season for Stevie Crawford's side following his move from Raith Rovers. He had hit an impressive 29 goals in 34 league games with Rovers the previous season.
Nisbet exclusively told H&T Sport recently of his desire to step up to the top tier of Scottish football. Having been tracked by Rangers, the striker said: "I know I've got the confidence in myself. I can go easily and step-up again.
"I'm starting to score goals, the confidence is there and I hope to keep hitting the target."
