STEVEN GERRARD has emerged as a "shock target" to become the next Bristol City manager, according to reports.
The Robins billionaire owner Steve Lansdown is currently on the hunt for a replacement for Lee Johnson after he was sacked last week.
And the Daily Express now report that Liverpool legend Gerrard is high on his list of possible candidates to take over the reigns of the Championship club.
Ex-Brighton manager Chris Hughton, Charlton boss Lee Bowyer and Plymouth Argyle’s Ryan Lowe are also said to be in the frame.
Gerrard, 40, signed a new deal at Rangers in December which means he is contracted at Ibrox until 2024.
