THE SPFL board has failed in an attempt to gain new powers relating to the effects of coronavirus after a resolution put to members failed to garner sufficient support.

In a statement released by the governing body, they announced that the board were seeking the "express power to manage Covid-19 related disruption during Season 2020/21, without the need to seek rule amendments approved by clubs" after "several" clubs requested that the motion be put forward.

After the resolution didn't have enough support to be implemented, the board have announced that they have "agreed to move forward in line with the clear will of the clubs" after a meeting earlier today.

The decision means that the current rules in place for the forthcoming season will remain in place, subject to another resolution brought forward by one of the 42 member clubs.

Chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “As a members’ organisation, it is vital that the board listen to the voice of our member clubs.”
