Steven Gerrard could be SACKED if he fails to win the Premiership this season.

That's the opinion of ex-Hibs striker Tam McManus. The retired player believes Gerrard must deliver silverware for the Ibrox side this term because all Old Firm bosses are judged on their trophy haul. Gerrard is yet to win anything of note in Glasgow and McManus says he'll be in a difficult position if his side start the season poorly.

Though the pundit admits the manager could walk before he's pushed if things don't go his way. "He's got to stop 10-in-a-row, the fans are demanding it," McManus said on PLZ Soccer. "There's been a lot of money spent. I think he's done a reasonable job.

"I think his performances, particularly in Europe have added to his reputation. They've had a brilliant run. And if you look at where they were before he came in, they got beat off Progres Niederkorn who were a part-time team from Luxembourg.

"The progress they've made, particularly in Europe, has been staggering to be honest. But the league campaign, he's still not won anything. Managers are judged at Celtic and Rangers, they've got to win something. For me, if they don't win the league this year then either he'll be sacked or he'll walk away because the be-all and end-all is to stop Celtic getting 10-in-a-row.

"If Rangers go have a poor start and they're maybe six or seven points behind Celtic early doors, then I think there'll be a decision need to be made by Rangers."
