Charlie Nicholas has urged Rangers not to even consider allowing Ryan Kent to leave Ibrox for anything less than £20million.

The former Celtic striker believes Kent is pivotal to Gers' title bid this year. But Premier League new boys Leeds Utd are circling the winger and have already had a £10million bid booted out.

Gers signed Kent for £7million so would only make a small profit on Leeds' initial offer. Though the Elland Road side are expected to return with a stronger bid.

But ex-Celtic man Nicholas insists Steven Gerrard should stand firm. "Rangers shouldn’t even consider selling Ryan Kent for anything less than £20million," he wrote in his Express column. "Leeds United are desperate to sign him and you can understand why. He is young and he has talent.

"Some big figures have been mentioned, including last week’s failed £10m bid, but even if Leeds come back in with £14m, I don’t see any value in that for Rangers – they would be short-changing themselves. It is such a big season for the Ibrox club as they try to stop Celtic getting 10-in-a-row. Steven Gerrard’s team are going for title number one – but what a big one it would be.

"So I just can’t see Rangers selling someone they paid £7m for unless they’re made an offer they can’t refuse. And, for me, that has to be £20m-plus."
