Ex-Celtic star Frank McAvennie reckons Shane Duffy would be the perfect addition at Parkhead and that the Irishman would be first pick ahead of Christopher Jullien and Kris Ajer.

The Hoops are still hopeful of bringing in Duffy on loan from Brighton despite interest from West Ham and West Brom. McAvennie believes Neil Lennon could do a lot worse than get Duffy in the door. And he compared the centre-half to another player who has made a career in England's top flight - ex-Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.

"He would go straight into the eleven ahead of Jullien or Ajer," McAvennie told Football Insider. "You have Bitton as well who is a midfield player and Lenny will chop and change. I would say Duffy is equivalent to Jonny Evans at Leicester. He is not Virgil van Dijk but he is so sure of himself.

"I would love to see Shane Duffy at Celtic Park. I rate him very highly. He will be a stalwart and be an ever-present at whichever club he ends up at this summer."

Celtic want Duffy to strengthen their defence but would have to part with a reported £2million loan fee, while their competition would be able to offer a larger transfer fee.
