Celtic are preparing to welcome Shane Duffy on loan from Brighton this week, and supporters have been left buzzing with the news.

The Irish defender is expected to add a no-nonsense approach to the game - exactly what the Hoops need - as well as a love for the club which should stand him and his teammates in good stead in their quest for the fabled 10 in a row.

Fans have been excited at having the Premier League player in their ranks. A boyhood Celts supporter, Duffy has previously been captured on film celebrating as he was serenaded by Celtic fans inside a Hoops bar. And now a tweet of his from two seasons ago has resurfaced that is likely to have fans even happier at the prospect of Duffy turning out in green and white.

The champions had just managed a rousing 3-2 win over Rangers at Ibrox back in 2018 thanks to an Odsonne Edouard winner. And, after a mate posted celebratory scenes on social media, Duffy admitted his disappointment at failing to make the game at Ibrox. In response to "Doesn't get any better #glasgowisgreenandwhite", he simply said: "Wish I came now".

Fans flocked to the post, even recently, with plenty attempting to convince the Irishman to sign for Celtic. One said: "Sign Shane sign," and another added: "Mon up the road Shane."

Duffy, 28, is expected to complete a season-long loan deal at Parkhead later this week.
