Aaron Hickey's proposed move to Bayern Munich is officially dead in the water, opening the door for Bologna to sign the left-back.

The Hearts defender had been invited to the Allianz Arena and Bayern's training facilities recently where he took in surroundings and met with club chiefs to discuss how he would fit into the academy squad alongside the likes of new signing Barry Hepburn and fellow Scot and ex-Celtic defender Liam Morrison.

Hickey had been weighing up his options as Serie A outfit Bologna also invited him to Italy but Herald and Times Sport understands Bayern Munich's offer is no longer an option. It is believed the player felt his chances to progress would be higher at Bologna.

The Italians have offered around £1.3million for the 18-year-old but that fee would rise depending on his time at the club, should he make the switch.

We told how Bologna have been the only club to lodge a formal offer for the player. Celtic, Manchester City and Lazio have all been credited with an interest in Hickey in recent times.
