Celtic's newest recruit Shane Duffy paid an emotional tribute to his late father after scoring for Ireland away in Bulgaria last night.

The on loan defender, 28, lost dad Brian suddenly back in May at the age of just 53. After bagging the equaliser in a tough match for the Republic, Duffy shared a poignant message on social media accompanied by a photo of himself in his international kit after his 34th cap.

It’s been a tough year personally for me and tonight with not having my best game and my first ireland game without my dad it was an emotional one but I know he was with me tonight with how proud an Irish man he is and to score it was for him. Miss him everyday and hope to do him proud . Disappointed not to get the win tonight but we go again Sunday back in the Aviva ! 🇮🇪☘️

Dedicating his goal to his dad, Duffy said: "It’s been a tough year personally for me and tonight with not having my best game and my first ireland game without my dad it was an emotional one. But I know he was with me tonight with how proud an Irish man he is and to score it was for him.

"Miss him everyday and hope to do him proud. Disappointed not to get the win tonight but we go again Sunday back in the Aviva!"

Duffy's whirlwind week was rounded off with his late header in injury time away from home, with the captain's band around his arm.
